Saving Historic Homes Details

University Circle - Wade Park Neighborhood Home Renovation

A recent home remodeling project has involved restoring, updating and repairing beautiful details to one of the Wade Park Neighborhoods original mansions. Built in 1910, the home has a great deal of its original charm but had fallen into disrepair in some areas. Also true to historic homes it was in great need of electrical, plumbing and HVAC updates. All part of our skill set

While we are still working on the home we wanted to share our success with repairing the beautiful stain glass windows from one of the bathrooms.

Third Floor Bathroom Makeover

Shaker Heights Attic Bathroom Makeover

In the Shaker Heights and Cleveland Heights area, many homes have third floor bathrooms in need of updating. We recently had the opportunity to update just such a bathroom. We removed the 1970's circa wallpaper, adapted the original clawfoot bathtub so it would function as a shower/tub combo, replaced the flooring, sink and toilet, repaired the walls and painted the bathroom. The bathroom is now much more welcoming and useful.

Do you have a bathroom you want to make more functional? We welcome the opportunity to make your bathroom work for you.

Bathroom Remodeling

Bathroom Overhaul Summer 2021

We just completed a great bathroom remodel where we gutted the bathroom walls and rebuilt them, added a new window to bring in natural light and worked with a new waterproofing product we really like. We also added grab bars to the tub for safety.

In older homes it is often best to remove the old tile and wall structure to get to the plumbing and electrical. In Cleveland we work with many older homes that need updating physically as well as aesthetically. Often time there has been water damage to walls due to unidentified leaks. The electrical consists of bathroom lights only, which for the time the home was built was a modern convenience. It is a joy to have updated plumbing an electrical. Replacing the walls lets us get to the plumbing and electrical so we can be sure your new bathroom is all you want your bathroom to be. It is not always necessary, but when it is, we work to make the best of the opportunity for you.

For this bathroom we replaced the bathtub surround with a product called Fibo™ from Norway. It provides a sleek European look to the bathroom and fantastic waterproofing for the tub area. You can check out Fibo's US offerings via their company website at Fibo™ USA or on their Instagram page at designbyfibo. If you are interested in using their products in your home remodeling project, give us a call phone: 216-310-1320. We found them a joy to work with and loved the finished look.

Kitchen Makeover

Old Brooklyn Neighborhood, Cleveland Ohio | Spring 2021

We had the honor this spring to remodel an older kitchen and living space for a small home in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood. The house had and outdated kitchen and less than functional layout. We worked with the owners to create a great new space within the constraints of their tight foot print.

In the end we created a beautiful working kitchen space with natural light pouring into the old dark kitchen. The kitchen had always been cold. We discovered in our work the old air vent had been shut off. We were able to reinstall their heat source. We opened up a wall to create a kitchen counter without eliminating much needed storage space. Our carpenter converted an old phone box space into a charging area and place for their phones and wifi router.

We love projects like this kitchen. Updating older homes to improve their function while respecting their history is a joy. Cost wise a kitchen makeover, like this one should run you in the mid $20,000 depending on what is involved. For this kitchen we gutted what was there, opened up walls and ceiling, replaced countertops and cabinets. Considering a similar project for your home? Call us, we would appreciate the opportunity phone: 216-310-1320.

Remodeling in Cleveland Heights

How do you create access to a specific basement area in an older home? You add a staircase. We were blessed with a great project complete with an assembly puzzle. Our client wanted access to the finished area of their basement. The area was not directly accessible via the original staircase and moving the staircase was not a reasonable option.

The answer came in the form of a spiral staircase. A beautiful and less intrusive cost effective option. We were able to fit the beautiful staircase efficiently into the space available.

Our pictures below show the process from the "puzzle" of staircase pieces to the reinforced opening we created in the ceiling and full installation of the staircase. We think it is beautiful.
